Location of Ramada Plaza Budapest Hotel
Ramada Plaza Budapest is about 15-30 min from the major Budapest sights, located on the Buda side of the Danube River, right at the northern tip of the beautiful Margaret Island (Margitsziget). The ancient hot springs of the island feed the thermal baths of the hotel. As Fodor remarks “although it’s right on the Danube, the immediate surroundings are rather drab: a busy highway, the suburban railway, and the concrete Arpad Bridge.” As for public transportation, the suburban train stops at the hotel and it takes you to the city centre in just a few minutes, or to Szentendre, a lovely little town near the capital. Ramada Plaza Budapest is about 15 miles/ 25 km from Ferihegy International Airport.
Rooms in Ramada Plaza Budapest Hotel
As Fodor puts it, and also some of the guests have noticed “Rooms in this huge, rectangular, red-brick property are fairly small for a hotel of this category, but they are sufficiently comfortable.” Frommer’s reviewer adds that ” The rooms are cheerful, with soundproof windows and complimentary bathrobes. Although the hotel is pleasant, it is nowhere near as luxurious, elegant, and architecturally interesting as the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal in Pest.” Some of the 312 rooms provide a wonderful view of the Danube and Margaret Island. All rooms have a bathroom, minibar, individually controlled air-conditioning, satellite TV, pay per view movies, direct dial phone, radio, and PC modem. The bathrooms have a bathtub and a shower, a hairdryer, a make-up mirror, bathrobes and various toiletries. Rooms for guests with mobility are available. Rooms are equipped with single, queen or king-size, twin or double beds. Deluxe rooms have been newly refurbished featuring unique, custom-made artifacts, top quality fluffy duvets with double oversized feather pillows, complemented by an exclusive line of guest amenities as well as complimentary coffee and tea making facility. The newly renovated rooms of Ramada Plaza (Corinthia Aquincum Hotel) were voted the “Number 2 Best New Hotel Room in Hungary 2006” (40 such rooms). The 8 suites have a separate living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, offering a beautiful view onto the Danube. Junior suites are equipped with King-size beds.
Pool and fitness in Ramada Plaza Budapest Hotel
“This is a “thermal” hotel, though not all guests come for the spa facilities. Spa-related facilities that all guests can use free of charge include a swimming pool, a sauna, thermal baths, a Jacuzzi, a Kneipp pool, a steam bath, a hydromassage shower (in which you control the directions and strengths of the many jets), and a fitness room. This delightful, modern hotel is built on the site of a Roman spa, hence its Roman theme,” writes Frommer’s guide. In the Aphrodite Health and Wellness Center of Ramada Plaza (Corinthia Aquincum) you can choose from various massages: sport, aroma, revitalizing, Thai, lava stone or Tibetan sound massage, indulge in the aroma or ozone baths, try medical therapies like underwater jet massage, ultrasound, electrotherapy or mud pack.
Thermal & Recreational Facilities: the swimming pool is approx. 26 feet wide and 49 feet long (8x15m), there are two thermal pools (one is 33 degrees C/ 91 Fahrenheit and the other is 38 degrees C/ 100 Fahrenheit). The thermal water contains sulphur, calcium, potassium, sodium, etc. Get refreshed in the Finnish or infrared saunas or get exhausted in the fitness room (high-tech cardio, resistance equipment, weights, personal trainers). And don’t forget: here you are pampering your body with the spa water that the Romans enjoyed 2000 years ago – calling this part of the town Aquincum (today Obuda district).
