One of the top Budapest attractions, the beautiful Matthias Church up on the Buda Castle Hill by the Fisherman’s Bastion in Budapest is currently being restored. Restoration works will probably last until May 31, 2013, but the church may be under construction longer if the deadlines cannot be kept.
Once the Matthias Church regains its former glory from the inside too (the restoration works outside took place in the last few years), you can fully enjoy this beautiful and special cathedral in Budapest, the royal Coronation Church, which is officially known as the Church of Our Lady, but after King Matthias’s weddings, locals simply call it the Matthias Church (Matyas templom).
When Matthias Church is fully restored, the wonderful concerts in the church will return too.
Due to the restoration works, there is very little to see from the inside of the church, so you may not wish to spend on the entrance fee if you are on a budget.
That said, the entrance fees are typically spent on restoration works, so it is also a contribution to keep this gem in its best form, think of it as a donation.
