Budapest, the City of Spas and Baths has dozens of fascinating thermal baths, outdoor pools and even waterparks. For couples and families it is essential to know which baths they can visit together, i.e. which baths are mixed or coed in Budapest, Hungary. Here is our guide to the thermal baths and pools regarding men and women admissions.
Mixed Baths Budapest
Budapest Baths are either mixed (co-ed) or only for men/ only for women on certain days of the week. Before 2010, several thermal baths in Budapest were not mixed, but these days most spa baths are mixed.
Szechenyi Thermal Baths: MIXED, women and men can swim and soak in the many thermal pools of Szechenyi Bath at the same time. Swimwear is compulsory to wear at all times (see Szechenyi Baths Dress Code). That said, Szechenyi bath has a rooftop terrace for nude sunbathing.
Szechenyi Baths are great for individuals, couples and families with teens alike. Open from 6 am to 10 pm, all days, all week. Szechenyi Bath is also open on public holidays, like Christmas, or October 23.

Gellert Baths Budapest: MIXED – since January 2013, women and men can swim and soak at the same time all week in the thermal baths and the pools of Gellert Spa Bath (Gellert Furdo) by the foot of the Gellert Hill and Liberty Bridge.
Gellert Baths are great for individuals, couples and families with teens alike, who can afford the bath ticket prices. The outdoor pools are also mixed throughout the week (note: the exterior thermal pool is also open in winter time, very much like the two big outdoor thermal pools in Szechenyi Baths, but is less visited). The bath is open from 6 am to 8 pm.

Rudas Baths, Budapest: NOT MIXED / MIXED on certain days – both women and men can swim and soak at the same time at weekends. Rudas Baths is great for individuals, couples and families alike on weekends. The rest of the week is gender separated, which also means that in some pools you will only see a little apron on men / women rather than a proper swimwear.
Women only bath days in Rudas Bath: Tuesday. Men only days in Rudas Bath: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Yep, men only days are 4 days during the week (sorry, ladies). The pools are open from 6 am to 6 pm from Monday to Wed, from 6 am to 8 pm from Thursday to Sunday, steam baths and saunas are open from 6 am to 8 pm all week. Rudas Bath is special in a sense that the baths reopen at 10 pm on Fri and Sat until 4 am at dawn. Exciting night bath in Budapest, does add some spice to the clubbing and concerts sort of nightlife, right?
Online tickets to Rudas Baths: sorry, currently not available.
Kiraly Baths, Budapest MIXED Kiraly Baths turned mixed on May 2, 2011. Before switching into full coed, Kiraly Bath was women only and men only on certain days, but not any more. It was not profitable to run the baths sex-separated (formerly and informally Kiraly Baths was also known as the gay baths as mostly men visited the baths).
Kiraly Baths are out of the sight of many tourists, off the beaten track, although these baths are worth a visit as truly authentic Turkish baths in Budapest (one of the advantages of the much too long Turkish occupation of Hungary in the Middle Ages). Note: children under 14 are NOT allowed to visit Kiraly Baths, Budapest.
Online tickets to Kiraly Baths: sorry, currently not available.
Lukacs Baths, Budapest: MIXED – both women and men can use the thermal baths and the pools at the same time. These baths are great for individuals and couples (for families with bigger children Szechenyi Baths or Gellert Baths are recommended). Open from 6am to 8pm.
Online tickets to Lukacs Baths: sorry, currently not available.
